We are living in times of uncertainty, as our ideas of peaceful coexistence are being jeopardised in various ways. After the coronavirus pandemic turned the rules of society completely upside down, the news of ever closer wars is causing us to harbour primal fears about the loss of self-determination. The individual organisation of one’s own life is a central longing for people, but what is still in sync and what is out of sync? Where do we still feel in harmony with our environment and where do the dissonances predominate?

… The works presented here in the catalogue do not present a false naturalness that hides the intentions and emotions of the photographers involved. Instead, their images provide us with their very own keys to finding our way through the labyrinth of the world. They are to be seen as contrapuntal statements to a predetermined beat and thus ‘being out of time’ does not only mean a threat to harmony, but also the possibility of discovering the unpredictable.
